Carrara Marble quarries are a often-opted landscape for fashion photo shootings, offering an otherworldly, timeless ambience. This time we are covering an Italian brand, EL VAQUERO that just launched its Spring / Summer 2019 collection with a dreamy video shot in the Apuan Alps.
EL VAQUERO is an excellence in the Italian leather tradition, based not far from Carrara in the heart of Tuscany. Many international brands have chosen Carrara and its quarries as a super trendy location, but this choice was led by EL VAQUERO legacy with the Tuscan territory.
We have interviewed Nicholas Giuntoli, CEO of EL VAQUERO:
How did you come up with the idea of presenting the new collection in Carrara marble quarries?
“We were looking for a local landscape, but an atypical one. To present the new collection named ‘New kind of desert’,its colors and materials, we needed a sort of lunar and desert scenario. After a thoughtful research, we chose Carrara quarries, as they really represented everything we were looking for. Last year we shoot in desert of Nevada but this time we wanted to do something different and original, and we found it just near us”
How was it to shoot in a quarry?
“It has been an important production for us, with over 20 people of staff, and we had a day available to produce all the material. We were lucky because we found a cloudy weather that was perfect for the lighting of the shooting in the marble. The overall experience in Carrara was very good: we were welcomed and looked after very well by Cava Fantiscritti who provided us with every need.”
Can you tell us something more about the Spring / Summer 2019 collection by EL VAQUERO ?
“EL VAQUERO woman is an independent one, that can adapt in any environment remaining herself, a free spirit, a traveler, always enterprising and curious. The new collection is inspired to the concept of ‘Mystical Desert’ where earth and sky converge, featuring brown and sky blue tones. New leather aging techniques create a fluctuation of color and shades on the suede, making it soft and velvety to the touch. In the new collection you will find also the roughness of the leather with a python print, wild and ethereal floral prints, and playful bright neon colors.”
